Medical advances

I thought all of the presentations were good. I learned a lot from all of them. The medical presentation was especially interesting. I knew about the a lot of the information before the presentation but it wasn't until Monday that I realized the significance of these advances. I had never before connected them to WW II. I can see why they were so important now and can also see how the advances in medicine had a huge impact on the soldiers.

Yes, I was wondering why sulfa was the standard at the beginning of the war, when it was developed second (or at least after penicillin), but in the presentation she showed us how sulfa was easier to manufacture, though less potent. Then by the last years, penicillin was able to be distributed to the front line troops. And the development of plasma was no doubt a deciding factor in saving those who were actually wounded, and though perhaps less than those falling sick, there were certainly enough of combat casualties to go around.
