Caricatures
The political caricatures that we saw were good training aids. This is what they were used for. The reason that they were good was because they delivered to the auduience the intended message for the purpose of training. To assist in the attempt to deliver this information, the cartoon was humorous which always makes learning anything far more easier because it attracts the attention of those involved.

I thought the cartoons were amusing. However, they made me wonder if they would have insulted the intellegence of the troops? Were training videos made to lighten the mood or did commanders think the soldiers were dumb and this was a way to give information to their intelligence level?
I thought these were good aides too. I thought SNAFU was funny.
I enjoyed the cartoons and can see their training purposes. Using cartoons is pretty smart because it lightens the mood but is still educational. After watching them I started wondering what types of propaganda has been used here and overseas since then.
I think and I'm hoping they were there to lighten the mood. It's easier to remember things that are entertaining as well as educating, such as the cartoons, rather than just watching a boring lecture style video or hearing it from a commanding officer. Plus it must have been a morale booster for all the soldiers to say, "At least I'm not as dumb as Snafu."
Im sure there are others in this class that could speak more to this subject, but I have a few friends that have told me about some of their military training videos.
Apparently the Army's video for learning how to use a brunton compass is the same video they used in the 60s. They kind of just become a joke and apparently no one really pays attention to them.
I think adding in a character and some jokes here and there would help keep trainees informed.
