I thought Truman, a Senator at the time, made an interesting statement during an interview talking about war production in the book America & War World II. He basically said that it was the military’s job to fight battles and the government’s job to make sure they have the proper tools or in other words let the experts be experts in their area of specialty. It seems that Americas and Britain had this figures out for the most part by the end of the war which helped in their ultimate success, however Hitler always kept butting his nose into areas he had no or very limited experience, mainly the war. We can see how Hitler set up the military before the invasion of Poland, in his involvement in the planning the invasion of Poland, and future campaigns. I believe Hitler was the allies’ best weapon because of the way he constantly overrode his generals’ regardless of their professional opinion. I wonder what would have happened if Hitler had let his generals fight the war without his hands being involved in every detail? Would it have made Germany harder to defeat?

That is an interesting query. Germany probably would have been more difficult to defeat militarily if the Generals and specialists were allowed to remain in their area of specialty for any amount of time without being assasinated. But Hitler wouldn't have been the Hitler we hear about today if he didn't have to have control of everything. His militaristic way of thinking placed him at the head of command, therefore he demanded having absolute control. His charisma helped him stay in control as long as he did. Hitler seemed to have few difficulties using propaganda and speeches to influence the masses. One who has the vote and support of the people is hard to defeat.

I know that we have seen Hitler growing up and his unbelievable way to get people to support him. But I still feel like i dont fully understand how he came to power. I was in class and watched the video, but I kept asking myself why Germany's leaders and others did not oppose Hitler more aggresively. But I also agree with the two comments above. I think that Hitler's legacy would not be as great if he had not had complete control over all parts of government.
