Stalingrad

Hitler's ego really shows this week (I think). Put yourself in Hitler's shoes for a moment (I know, I know) and you want to accomplish this very specific thing - which up til now you have been doing, with success. Until Stalingrad. Make no mistake, I'm not an admirer of, nor do I condone Hitler's actions. But he really dropped the ball there and I think for no other reason than ego. He was going to take "Stalin's city"? ...sort of staggers the imagination doesn't it?

Well, he was an egomaniac and a psycho. To attempt to place reason with Hitler is like trying shoving a square peg into a round hole. Hitler was an idiot, and thank God he messed with the war and his military leadership to the point that Germany lost. All his "great" military schemes come from the mind of a failed artist whose highest earned rank in the military was a corporal during WWI.

I agree with both of you. He was very egoistic and he did lead his country to defeat. He refused to retreat and back down when he probably should have.

I agree that he was a crazy egomaniac. I would actually like to know if after knowing the result of his military campaigns, if he would have changed anything. Would he see his own faults or would he make the same mistakes again because of his ego?

Hitler was just land hungry. He wanted to overtake whatever he could by any means possible, whether it was smart or not. Stalingrad was obviously not a smart choice but if he did succeed in the seige he would've had control over a major Russian city.
