Seelow Heights

It is kind of interesting to think of what may have come of the war had the Soviets not "won" the battle. It was mentioned that the US and British sides felt that they would rather use the Soviets to take out Berlin. But I also understood that part of it had to due with the fact that they had been fighting in the war for so long that they deserved the claim of taking out the city. It kind of makes me wonder then if they were not able to move forward would they have still gotten the nod for Berlin. Obviously the battle wouldnt have taken place for a while later, but did the claim of victory change the perspective of what the Soviets were capable of. And did this battle further prove that they were going to give anything to take out the Nazis.

In the final part of class of wednesday Lon Strauss spoke about the necessary means for the heavy casualties taken by the soviets. Concluding with the point that, even though it might have seem to be a careless attempt with lives, it was an overall push to end the war. The soviets were in the war from the start with a painstaking number of casualties and the sooner it was over the better, therefore with the number of losses already they were ready to take on the war full force until it was concluded, something that seem appalling at first if looking directly at casualties but with the battle of seelow heights and battle of budapest the war came to fastest end in sight.

Overall, the number of casualties is terrible, but it does seem better than the bushido (code of the samurai) by the japanese, however, if bushido is something that they truly believe in, then why stop them from something as such. As for the american outlook on the death toll of the germans, soviets, and japanese; something like this seems to be not tactically efficient, and careless, but in the USA economy we are the land of the free, free thinking free religion, with efficiency and meaningful lives that are built around success of profitable goods for ourselves. success for ourselves is the overall meaning, or so it seems to be. Therefore when faced with world wars it causes a radically new way of thinking when we see the perspectives of so many different societies. Because as for what we know in a general since is the fact of life or death, and not the motives, perspectives, or insights behind such catastrophes.
