Battle of Midway

I think that it was interesting that the American pilots who were under-skilled and in illequipped planes beat the best Japanese pilots. After much defeat the Japanese decided to go a second assault, and even once thier three aircraft carriers were attacked they decided to send thier last fleet to attack. These dicisions seemed irresponsible. Even American Admiral Nimtz decided to go for an all out victory and went after the last Japanese aircraft carrier. This may have been common, but was it usually the best decision? Why did they do this?

the battle of midway by the video calculations was that of definite luck, the predictions by the USA toward the japanese navy were completely off and this battle would have been a complete disaster if it weren't for McClusky who made the NW turn in his plane and found the japanese battleship headed back toward the main fleet. Therefore by saying that it is amazing that the USA could gun down japanese plane with such ease is not correct when the japanese were ready they had no problem taking us out in the air but because of this fall of dumb luck the only thing that USA aviators had to do was to fly over the ships and drop the bombs. it was also pure luck that the japanese were refueling at the time to cause a even greater damage to an otherwise faulting drop.

It may not have been the smartest decision to go for an all out victory at Midway, but it sure paid off. As for the Japanese, what other choice did they have, if they did not continue to fight they would have no change of staying in the war and beating the Americans. I completely agree with Scott, Midway was won on pure dumb luck.

I have always been fascinated with the Battle of Midway. I can remember always stopping and watching the black and white movie titled midway when I was younger. Those movies might have been inaccurate but they were quite entertaining. However I did not know how much the Japanese outnumbered the the Americans at the battle. Also in the movie, the movie made it seem as though it was a surprise attack. But the presentation showed me that the U.S. was very knowledgeable that Japan would try to attack Midway.
